Farewell to Lutsel K'e

A few more photos on the last day, May 28th. Its a warm day but the lake is still frozen.

Back at the hostel, Lady and Tramp sort of pose for a couple of pictures.

Brian Green, on the left, is the manager of the Co-op store, host at the hostel and taxi to the airport. He was there to send me off.

Air Tindi's friendly pilot, Monica, who took me back to Yellowknife.

As the only passenger on the flight, I got to sit in the co-pilot's seat and use my headphones to listen to the air traffic and talk to Monica.

And finally we are back in Yellowknife.

May 26, 2009 and the ice is receding along the shore. Now to get the snow mobiles off the ice.

New Friends

Here are my new friends in Lutsel K'e. They haven't told me their names yet. Very friendly, hope they stay that way! They won't stand still long enough to get a decent picture.

The boats are "resting waiting for Spring"

Above is the Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation office, as seen from the waterfront.

With almost 20 hours of daylight there is lot of opportunity to take some photos around the community.

Its now May 23 and still no sign of open water. Hopefully the ice will be gone before the annual visit by the barge from Hay River with supplies.

The only church in town but still used regularly by the faithful.

Co-op Hotel, home sweet home

This is really more of a hostel than a hotel but it is a comfortable place to stay. They have satellite TV, telephone and fax and now satellite internet as well. Arrive in Lutsel K'e via Air Tindi aboard a turboprop Otter, seats 9 people, about a 40 minute flight from Yellowknife, 250 miles away.
